Haledon Resident Michael Johnson Appointed to Borough Council

Second African-American Council member in Haledon History

September 3, 2010

Haledon, NJ – Last night, Haledon resident and Paterson police detective Michael Johnson was appointed to fill the vacant seat on the Haledon Borough Council. Johnson was appointed by Mayor Domenick Stampone to fill the seat of Councilman Daniel Batelli, who resigned citing health issues and work responsibilities.

“Michael has been a strong member of our community and brings a wealth of invaluable experience and qualifications to our Borough Council,” stated Stampone. “Although we had several qualified candidates step forward – including my running mate Mounir Almaita – the County Committee and I agreed appointing Michael was the fair thing to do, as he received the highest number of votes among council candidates in the most recent primary election.

“I am honored and humbled by Mayor Stampone and the Haledon Democratic County Committee for appointing me to serve my neighbors, friends, and family on the Borough Council,” stated Johnson. “However, this does not change my resolve and work ethic through Election Day – I will continue knocking on doors, talking to voters, and making my case to our community why I deserve to be elected on November 2nd.”

Johnson will serve out the remaining four months of this term and is running to fill a one year unexpired term in November’s general election. Election Day is Tuesday, November 2nd.
