HALEDON AWARDED $300,000 DCA STATE GRANT

Efficient municipal government key to receiving State aid

September 21, 2010

Haledon, NJ – Last week, the Borough of Haledon was awarded a $300,000 Department of Community Affairs grant for local communities with efficient local budgets and sound fiscal practices. The transitional aid grant will be applied to the FY2010 budget – allowing Haledon to maintain important municipal services while continuing to invest in the future. Senator John Girgenti, Assemblywomen Nellie Pou and Elease Evans, and Mayor Domenick Stampone all lobbied for Haledon to be considered for this important State grant.

“This grant is a testament to the sound fiscal practices being implanted during my tenure as Mayor,” stated Stampone. “We are continuing to stabilize the budget without wholesale cuts to essential municipal services. This grant – from a Republican Governor – shows this isn’t just campaign rhetoric, its real progress in Haledon taking place every day.”

“The strong partnerships our team has developed – from Congressman Pascrell to the 35th District Legislators, to Freeholders Terry Duffy and Pat Lepore – are all yielding important investments in Haledon,” stated Council President Maha Kandis. “Haledon’s progress over the last four years has been great, and I’m excited about the progress we can make in continuing to improve our community.”
